A Sad, Sad, Sad Day For Talk Radio.
Hendrie To Retire
Direct from AllAccess:
PREMIERE RADIO NETWORKS is announcing that PHIL HENDRIE is retiring from radio effective JUNE 23 to continue his acting career. HENDRIE is in the cast of the current NBC sitcom "TEACHERS" and has provided voices for FOX' "KING OF THE HILL" and "FUTURAMA" and for TREY PARKER and MATT STONE's puppet satire "TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE" as well as acting in the short-lived NBC sitcom " A.U.S.A." He also did a sitcom pilot for NBC and an animated pilot for FOX.
In a press release, HENDRIE said "I have taken my show as far as I can in the present climate of terrestrial radio. I've been doing these characters for 16 years and believe it's time for me to take them from behind the microphone and present them in front of the camera."
PREMIERE Pres./COO KRAIG KITCHIN added that "in a radio world that often sounds like the voices and conversations are all the same, PHIL HENDRIE has distinguished himself by using the most unique talent to create satire, comedy magic and characters we will all miss. I wish him well in his television and screen pursuits. He wins my vote for a Radio Hall-of-Famer."
I've grown to love The Phil Hendrie Show over the past few years, and I'm going to be extremely bored out of my frickin' mind between 10:00 PM and 1:00 AM once it's off the air. There have been so many memorable laughs over the years that I can only thank Phil for, and although we'll still be able to see him on Teachers (at least for now), he'll never be able to do a show like The Phil Hendrie Show on television. The only hope I have is that maybe, just maybe, he'll continue with the show for satellite radio. That would give him a heckuva lot more breathing room to do what he loves to do (he and I agree on the FCC's overzealous "decency standards"), and it might be the one thing that gets me to subscribe to Sirius or XM, whichever company hired him. However, given his recent bit that revealed his feelings about how Sirius is doing in terms of radio product (and some speculate that he was reprimanded for that bit, which could have been the final straw in his decision to leave the medium), I'm not sure a jump to satellite radio is very likely for him.
Phil, for the years of laughter and joy, I give you a tip o' the pith helmet, an Arby's Beefwich, and a hearty...
THAT TEARS IT!!!
