This is your one-stop shop for commentary about the state of modern-day radio from Josh C. The Radio Blog covers everything from what individual stations are doing wrong and how they should fix it to how Clear Channel Radio and post-consolidation corporate radio sucks and why. Josh also takes a look at opinions of others and debates them into submission, forcing them to agree with him. He's always right anyway.

iBiquity serenades the FCC: "How will I make it on my own?"

According to Satellite Radio TechWorld, iBiquity is looking for some help with getting IB(A)C into vehicles, especially seeing the SatRad merger as a major threat.  Read all about it here.  Here's an excerpt.

As a remedy to the merger, iBiquity recommends that the Commission imposed the following two conditions:

1. Require that HD Radio be included in all satellite radio receivers.

2. Require tha tthe merged entity terminate all exclusive agreeements and to prohibit all such agreements with suppliers, retailers, and the OEMs.

I can just imagine that voicemail message.  Let's listen in, shall we?

The FCC has already given our free airways over to the iBiquity/HD Radio Alliance Cartel - this just seems like an admission that iBiquity's junk technology isn't going anywhere. It will be interesting to see what Congress's probe into the FCC turns up:

Absolutely, and that's something that I'm keeping a very watchful eye on. It's about time someone above the Commission woke up and asked, "Hey, just what the hell is going on here?"

Josh,

Bob Savage of WYSL has already submitted a bunch of IBOC material exposing HD Radio to Senator Dingell, who is probing the FCC - Savage has offered to testify in front of Congress.
